Edinburgh Airport is the first airport to demonstrate ClickAirport BIRDS, a software application using a wireless network and touch screen handheld computers to capture data on airfield bird/wildlife management and download the information to a database automatically.
London Gatwick is slated to test the system this month or next, and Poole, U.K based vendor ClickAir hopes to roll it out in the near future at other airports in the U.K. and elsewhere. The system gives managers quick access to management reports and provides auditable proof of effective bird-control practices, ClickAir says.
The system collates information on detection, dispersal, bird strikes and shift analysis and produces graphs and reports showing both existing and potential problems as well as dispersal techniques. Managers can sort the data to analyze differences by time, season, weather, location, species type, etc.
